In 1990, my great uncle, Nathan Geetter, in celebration of his 50th wedding anniversary with my Aunt Lillian, presented
each family member with a Geetter Family Album. This book contained the names, birthdates and anniversary
dates of five generations of Geetters, as well as some old pictures of my great grandparents and the story of how
we came to the United States. I treasure the pieces of my history that are contained in that book.
Recently, after reading a book called Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer, (in which the main charcter travels to the Ukraine to find the Shtetl where his family
is from), I decided I wanted to learn more about my own roots. Using the information in Uncle Nate's book, and
the magic of the internet, I was able to find more about the Shtetl where we are from. I want the story of our
family's heritage to be preserved for future generations, and our family tree kept alive.
Uncle Nate is now celebrating his 90th birthday! In honor of his birthday, I have created this website. It
is currently a work in progress. When it is complete, it will contain family photos, Uncle Nate's story of our family
history and an updated family tree. It will also contain additional photos and information about the Shtetl
where our family was from.
